Welcome to the Earnshaw Lab

I am a social psychologist who aims to understand and intervene in associations between stigma and health inequities across the lifespan. Much of my research is with people living with chronic illnesses, including substance use disorders, HIV, and mental illness. This website contains resources for people who do similar research and/or like to learn about research.

The Research page highlights several of my current research projects, theories of stigma and health inequities, and stigma scales as well as answers questions about my research. The People page introduces our lab members. The Learn More page includes blogs, podcasts, and presentations where you can learn about the results of some of our work. Thanks for visiting!

I am also the incoming editor-in-chief of the American Psychological Association (APA) journal Stigma and HealthThis editor spotlight discusses the journal’s importance in the field, current challenges faced by stigma and health researchers, and priorities and plans for the journal. In this editorial, outgoing editor-in-chief, Patrick Corrigan, and I reaffirm Stigma and Health’s ongoing commitment to publishing research that informs real-world efforts to address stigma and right social injustice.
